Overview of the Major Buddhist Beliefs
Buddhists believe in reincarnation -- meaning, that they believe that one does not own just one life, but experiences another after death; it is when one reaches nirvana, or is enlightened, that this cycle of life, death, and rebirth is broken. However, until then, for the Buddhists, existence almost seems to be endless -- it basically repetition after repetition of suffering.
Buddhists believe to have six realms in which a soul can be reborn into: Heaven, the realm of humanity, realm of the Titans (or the angry gods), the realm of the hungry ghosts, the animal realm, and the hell realms. These all are soon influenced by karma (read below)
The ultimate goal in life for Buddhists is to end suffering through reaching Nirvana.
